Years of Experience : Over 16 years
Department / Division : Styling / Engineering Division

Personal Biodata:

I started my career in Proton as a junior designer back in 1996 and have been the Head of Styling since 2005. My First Degree was in Industrial Design (Automotive Design) and in 2007 I obtained my Masters in Design Technology from UiTM Shah Alam. I am now in the midst of pursuing my PhD in Design via a MOHE grant in collaboration with UTM. Although my expertise is primarily in the automotive sector I have also been actively involved in numerous other fields of art & design. In my professional career I have travelled extensively around the globe to work with customers, consultants, clients and counterparts from every level of the automotive value chain. I have also represented PROTON for presentations & events in Asia, UK and Europe on topics ranging from PROTON’s function within the Malaysian Industrialization Plan to Brand Growth Strategies for the PROTON Design Group.

Working for PROTON:

I am honored and proud to be a part of the National Car Project. More so in being able to use my expertise and experience in design to promote change in the cultural mindset of the company, our customers and Malaysia as a whole. Not many people get to have the opportunity to exercise their ideas into physical objects that can be experienced by the masses. Therefore I feel I’ve been given a great responsibility to deliver the very best every single day I am at work. Progressive and emotive designs coupled with artistic diversity are the driving forces behind my professional philosophy, and I strongly believe that our human touch is the integral band that connects everything in life. In essence, I personifies myself as a Design Visionary, Strategist and Digital Technology Evangelist.

Achievements:

With passion as my main driver, throughout the years I’ve won awards for participating in competitions ranging from furniture design, digital arts and industrial design.Internally, the following are some of the key awards I’ve received: -

Malaysia Good Design Award 2007 for Proton Satria Neo & Proton Persona

Grand Prize Winner for PROTON’s 25th Anniversary “What Moves You” Contest 2010

Awarded PROTON’s Leadership Talent 2008/09 and 2009/10 onwards

I am also proud to represent Proton at the International Auto Aftermarket Expo seminar in Tokyo, Japan where I did a presentation to the international media on interdependencies within the automotive value chain.
Another notable mention is being selected as a judge to represent Proton during the entire season of IDEA 2010 – Malaysia Inventors’ Challenge reality TV show.

Greatest Highlights:

One of the highlights of my career here is to be able to live in Norwich and Coventry being seconded to Lotus Design and co-developing the Satria Neo hatchback together with the pioneering team of the Malaysian Sports Car project. The experience changed my entire perspective of the business and enabled me to mature creatively. I have also been fortunate to be the Project Manager and Lead Designer of the EMAS project which was unveiled by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2010. It was a significant event as the EMAS was the first concept car developed by Proton for the world stage. I would have to say my proudest moment was being able to stand on stage in front of the entire nation on live TV and present the styling principles of the Preve at its launch on 16th April 2012. That was a pinnacle moment where design was acknowledged as a key factor in Proton's drive to be a design-led organization.

Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel

Years of Experience : 3 years Lotus Engineering / 8 years Proton Motorsport Division
Department / Division : Integration and Analysis / Vehicle Engineering / Engineering

Personal Biodata:

I started my engineering career with Lotus Engineering UK 11 years ago. I was a junior vehicle dynamics engineer in-charge of suspension design & development. During my time with Lotus, I got the opportunity to work on many different products other than Proton cars. This actually gave me the opportunity to design, develop & understand competitor vehicles which today has translated to performance ride & handling on R3 vehicles & handling product we offer to our Proton customers. I later moved on to forming Proton’s own Motorsport Division with the objective of creating accessories for Proton cars. By end of 2004 we created our first limited edition vehicle, Proton Satria R3 which was based on the iconic Proton Satria GTI. Till today it still holds the fastest 0-100kmh & shortest braking distance against all other Proton products. By 2006, Proton Motorsport was the only team to have won the MME 12Hr Endurance race back to back (’05 & ’06) and still holds the record. Today Proton motorsport have moved to the international arena through the Satria S2000 program, spreading the Proton brand world wide. R3 is now the performance accessories brand concentrating on performance accessories & limited edition vehicles offered to our customers.

Working for PROTON:

I feel honored to work with Malaysia’s largest automotive manufacturer. Proton has helped me develop both my engineering & management skills through their vast scope of business (design, testing & development to manufacturing).

Achievements:

Formation of Proton’s motorsport brand “R3” which today is a well recognized & premium brand for Proton cars.

Satria R3 (2004) Best hot hatch available in Malaysia

Two times MME 12Hr Endurance Champion. We still hold this record till today.

Greatest Highlights:

Creation of the Satria R3. It is still the lightest, fastest & best performance handling Proton to date.
To be part of the first team to train Proton Ride & Handling team on Lotus performance driving & car control needed for R&H development & vehicle evaluation.

Noor Hisham Ismail

Years of Experience : 16 years
Department / Division : Integration and Analysis / Vehicle Engineering / Engineering

Personal Biodata:

Graduated in BSc. Mechanical Engineering from University of Rochester, New York.

Working for PROTON:

Driven by an urge to have a more challenging task with some amount of freedom in exploration and creativity, I joined Proton as a design engineer with the Engine Development section, Engineering Design in R&D. After some time, somewhere in the middle of 1997, I moved on from a design engineering role to a CAE engineering function, still in the Engineering Design Department. Since then, my contribution to Proton’s vehicle development program such as Waja, Gen-2, Satria Neo, Persona, Saga, Exora and so on, stems from the CAE engineering discipline. My contribution is mainly in the area of BIW structural stiffness, strength, NVH and durability. At the moment, I am working out something to expand these engineering dimensions towards a new field.

Achievements:

2006: Best Technical Paper [Altair User Conference, India]

2007: Excellence in CAE [HTC’07 Conference, Detroit, USA]

2009: Asia Pacific Innovation Award [MSC Conference, KL]

Greatest Highlights:

I feel that I am still working very hard to reach a true and meaningful highlight with Proton. Personal achievements that have been made so far could not be realized without the hard work of early Proton generation before me, executives and non-executives alike, who have done a very good job in preparing and establishing a landscape and fundamental for engineer like me to pick up and continue with what they have left behind them. My achievements are still relatively small. There are many more big things to be scored. I should be grateful with the opportunity and trust given in building a legacy for Proton. A legacy that wishfully would lead Proton to reach much further from where it is now. A legacy that would prepare Proton’s future generation with a sense of pride and confidence.
